Wood, dimensions and material yield
Timber choice, source availability, colour selection and acceptable natural variation affect the material required for a program. A single-piece teak board and a joined teak panel should be identified separately in the quotation.
Finished length, width and thickness determine the volume of wood in the board, but the production input also includes cutting and machining allowances. A custom outline, narrow handle or selected pattern can affect yield. Compare the finished specification and proposed construction together.
Construction and machining steps
End-grain boards need block cutting, assembly, bonding and surfacing. Chevron layouts add pattern decisions and alignment requirements. Grooves, side grips, drilled holes, feet and shaped edges add operations or components to the finished item.
Show those details on a drawing before comparing prices. A board with a one-sided groove and plain reverse is a different machining scope from a board with routed details on both faces. The construction guide explains the terms to use.
Finishing, logo and retail packaging
The agreed oil or coating, surface preparation and requested supporting documents form part of the product scope. Logo dimensions, detail and the number of engraving positions can also affect marking cost.
Price the sleeve or box, protective insert, care card, labels and master cartons with the board. Printed packaging can carry setup costs and its own minimum quantity. A lower board-only quote may cover a different retail unit from a quotation that includes all of those items.
MOQ, sampling and the order assortment
Order quantity influences the way setup and production are planned. Provide quantities per SKU rather than only the total across an assortment. Identify which dimensions, profiles or pack formats differ between the items.
ATB's general starting point is 500 pieces per SKU, with selected 100-piece mixed-SKU trials reviewed separately. Item-specific catalogue minimums matter: end-grain and solid teak paddle board programs list 1,000 pieces per size or item. Request sample scope, charges and timing with the quotation.
Use a quotation comparison sheet
| Compare | Record the same basis |
|---|---|
| Product | Wood, construction, dimensions, drawing revision and natural appearance range |
| Operations | Grooves, handles, holes, grips, feet, edge profiles and finish |
| Branding | Artwork, logo size, number of positions and sample approval |
| Packaging | Unit pack, printing, care insert, labels, carton quantity and weights |
| Commercial scope | Quantity per SKU, sample and setup charges, inspection and required documents |
| Delivery | Named destination, quoted shipping term, freight scope and validity |
Keep one-time charges separate from repeat unit costs where possible. Ask the supplier to identify an alternative specification explicitly so a cheaper construction or pack can be assessed as a different option.
Separate the product quote from delivered-cost planning
A quotation under one shipping term does not necessarily include the same transport or destination charges as another. State the destination and requested scope, then review the freight, insurance and destination-side cost responsibilities with the parties arranging the shipment.
For e-commerce, use the actual packaged-unit and carton dimensions when planning storage and fulfilment. Send a complete cutting board RFQ to receive a quote that can be compared and retained for future orders.
Before you request a quotation.
Can you publish one wholesale price for every cutting board?
A useful price needs a specification and quantity. Wood, dimensions, construction, features, finish, branding, packaging and delivery scope all need to be defined.
Why can two boards of the same size cost differently?
They can use different timber, grain constructions, pattern layouts, machining details, finishes or packs. Compare the complete specification rather than dimensions alone.
Should we compare board-only cost or the retail unit?
Compare the scope you intend to purchase. For a private-label range, include the agreed logo, packaging, inserts, labels and carton arrangement as well as the board.
